volunteer with us

As a small charity, Maryhill Burgh Halls relies greatly on the support of its volunteers who help with administration tasks and front-of-house duties, conducting guided tours, running events and researching local history.

We also have opportunities available to become a member of the Trust or become part of our Board.

“I continue to learn something new every day, be it from my own research which I share with visitors on guided tours or from the visitors who impart knowledge of the area to me.”

volunteer roles

front of house volunteers

We want all visitors to the Halls to receive the warmest welcome. Front of House volunteers keep everything running smoothly - directing visitors and event attendees, and handling enquiries in person and on the phone. This is a perfect place to pick up customer service or events experience, with morning and afternoon volunteering slots available Monday - Friday.

Administration & events volunteers

We need volunteers to help us look after customers from the moment they make an enquiry until their event is complete, providing brilliant customer service; undertaking administrative tasks and helping ensure everything runs smoothly on the day. This is a varied role in a unique venue.

Heritage volunteers

Want to research local history and work with our heritage collection? Want to share your passion for local history with schools, community groups and the public on guided walks and building tours? We need heritage volunteers to protect and promote Maryhill’s history.

Training and support for volunteers

We provide in-house and, where possible, external training to support our volunteers. We reimburse travel expenses to and from Maryhill Burgh Halls from the Greater Glasgow area. It is the Trust’s aim to provide a fantastic range of skills development opportunities for volunteers.
